My Favorite Place: Naples, Florida

I don't get out of Oklahoma much, as my family doesn't really believe in traveling. However, I was able to go to Naples, Florida with some friends and their parents last spring break. It was still a bit too chilly to swim in the ocean but it turned out to be an awesome trip. We stayed in the family's condo which was backed up to a little wildlife area. There were so many lizards, birds, and squirrels to watch.

I was very impressed with the food as well. At one point, I was hesitant to order what was essentially fish sticks, but it turned out to be delicious and fresh. I'd kill for some of those fish sticks any day. I also really enjoyed our walks. I'm not usually a very active person but the area lacked Oklahoma's normal heat and humidity. Being outdoors was actually very enjoyable. The following photo was taken at the end of one of our excursions. There was a nice little gazebo-type structure out in the middle of the water to sit and watch the fish and turtles.

end of one of our morning walks)

Even though we didn't get farther into the water than our toes, the ocean was beautiful to watch. The sunsets reflecting off of the water were almost as pretty as the ones we have in Oklahoma. I've heard that when watching a sunset over an ocean, there is a flash of green light right when the sun disappears under the line of the ocean. We all waited and looked hard for the flash but it did not appear on the day that this photo was taken. I'll be sure to check again when I go back for more fish sticks.

  1. Hi Casey! I definitely get what you mean, I don’t travel often at all. The only time I go anywhere is when I drive to Texas for leadership retreats but not really for fun. That’s sad that it was too cold for you to swim when you went to Florida but I’m glad you still got to go somewhere fun! The picture of the bridge looks so pretty, I would love to walk on it everyday!

  2. That picture of the walkway is fabulous, Casey! What a brilliant trick of perspective! And you mentioned lizards, birds, and squirrels... you will find stories about all those kinds of animals and more in India: so many animal stories! One of my favorite stories about Rama is about Rama and the squirrels, and how they got their stripes: Rama and the Squirrel ... and the god Vishnu (Rama is an incarnation of Vishnu) even had incarnations as a fish (his first incarnation) and as a turtle (his second): Wikipedia: Vishnu's Avatars

  3. Like Laura said, I love the picture of the walkway! What a gorgeous place. That is so neat that you were able to travel to Florida with friends and that's nice that their condo backed up to a wildlife area! I love nature and animals so I think I would enjoy Naples as much as you do, and the food sounds great too!

  4. Hello again, Casey! Florida is also one of my favorite states to visit. It is so cool to see that you got to stay close to the wildlife area! Did any of the animals scare you? Ahh, fish sticks. I bet it was fresh and delicious being so close to the water! That sunset looks gorgeous and just as pretty as the ones here in Oklahoma. I hope you can go back soon and enjoy some more sunsets and delicious fish sticks!
